Braves pounded by Barons

Birmingham took a 4-0 lead in the second by posting five singles in the inning. Cory Aldridge, Micah Schnurstein, Gustavo Molina, and Michael Myers each singled and scored in the inning.

The Barons added another run in the third when Corey Smith led off with a single and later scored on a single by Molina to make the score 5-0 Braves.

Mississippi got on the board in the fourth after Onil Joseph led off with a single, moved to third on a ground out by Bobby Darula, moved to third on a groundout by Escobar, and scored on a single by Barbaro Canizares. Joseph's run made the score 5-1.

Birmingham extended its lead with a run in the seventh. With two outs in the inning, Michael Myers singled to third and Josh Arteaga threw the ball into the Barons dugout allowing Cory Aldridge to come in to score. Then Christopher Getz hit a two-run triple that brought Schnurstein and Myers to the plate to make the score 8-1, Barons.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, Birmingham added another three runs to extend its lead to 11-1. Pedro Lopez ripped a two-run triple that brought Myers and Getz to the plate and Nanita singled to right bringing Lopez home.

Anthony Lerew (4.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) allowed five runs through four innings and fell to 0-1 on the year. Eric Schmitt (3.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) allowed three runs through three innings. Ryan Basner (2.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 K) gave up three unearned runs in the ninth.

Barbaro Canizares belted his fourth homer of the year in the ninth inning to make the score 11-2.

Tyler Lumsden (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K) allowed four hits and one run through seven innings on his way to earning his eighth win of the year. Fraser Dizard (2.0 IP) threw two scoreless innings. Dwayne Pollok (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 HR) allowed one run in the ninth inning.

The Braves face the Barons in the rubber match of this five-game set tomorrow night at 7:05 at Trustmark Park. RHP Matt Wright takes the hill for Mississippi in search of his first win while the Barons counter with LHP Corwin Malone who's going for his eighth win of the year.
