Albany River Rats News Release
Albany N.Y. - The Albany River Rats announced today that Talk Radio 1240 AM WVKZ will serve as the club's flagship radio station for the 2005-06 season. WVKZ, a 5,000-watt station within the Anastos Media Group, will broadcast all 80 regular season contests during their American Hockey League season, while a majority of the games will be simulcast on Moon Radio AM 1160 WABY.
The club also announced that a new feature through B2 Networks will allow fans the opportunity to watch all 80 games live for a nominal fee on the club's website at www.albanyriverrats.com
"Our broadcast partnership with Anastos takes a new step this season," said Garen Szablewski, River Rats President/C.E.O. "We felt our fan base was better served with WVKZ's coverage and our thanks to Anastos for providing two great stations for River Rats hockey. Plus, our league-wide relationship with B2 Networks' streaming video is yet another way for our fans to be a part of the action."
Each Albany River Rats radio broadcast will begin 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off with the Pre-Game Show. Play-by-play announcer Jonathan Scherzer will return to call the action for the top affiliate of the New Jersey Devils. The first regular season broadcast will be heard on October 8, 2005 when the River Rats open their 13th American Hockey League season on the road against the Syracuse Crunch at 7:15pm.
"We are happy to continue this great relationship with the Albany River Rats," added J. Scott Collins, President and Managing Partner of Anastos Media. "Our commitment to local sports brings the fans closer to not only the River Rats, but the Tri-City Valley Cats and West Point Football as well."
Anastos Media has been operating in Saratoga County for the past seven years. The company operates six stations in New York and New England, including STAR 101.3FM, WABY 1160, WUAM 900 and Talk 1240 AM WVKZ.
