Mississippi Braves News Release
The Mississippi Braves dropped the finale of their 3-game series with Birmingham 6-4. The Braves have now lost four consecutive games.
Mississippi took the lead in the first inning when Wes Timmons scored on a grounder back to the pitcher.
The Barons tied the score in the third when Jerry Owens reached on a fielder's choice, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on an error by shortstop Luis Hernandez.
The score remained tied until the 6th inning when Ryan Basner came in for an injured Matt Coenen. The Barons scored five runs on four hits to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Mississippi came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning when Wes Timmons walked, Jeff Francoeur singled, and Scott Thorman doubled in both of them making the score 6-3.
The Braves added another run in the eighth when Thorman singled and Brad McCann doubled him in making the score 6-4.
Matt Coenen (5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K) had another strong outing before leaving the game in the sixth. Ryan Basner (1.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) was saddled with the loss, falling to 0-5 on the year.
For the Barons, Nik Lubisich (6.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) improved to 5-3 on the year while Bobby Jenks recorded his tenth save of the year.
