
Intimidators swept in Columbus

Columbus, GAâ The Intimidators suffered their first, four-game sweep at the ahnds of the Columbus Catfish falling short 6-5 Monday night at Golden Park in Columbus, GA.
Columbus rallied in the seventh overtaking the Intimidators with Fernando Hernandez (2-3) pitching in relief of Gio Gonzalez. Tony Abreu scored the go ahead run on a Micah Schnurstein error. Mike Nixon followed with a double driving in Xavier Paul giving the Catfish a 5-3 lead.
In the ninth inning, the visitors made it close. Cory Haggerty reached on his third double of the night and scored on a Ricardo Nanita sacrifice fly. Carlos Lee doubled to right-center field putting the tying run at second before Leo Daigle lined out to end the game.
The winning pitcher was Alvis Ojedo (8-2) who gave Columbus two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. Brett Wayne (4) held on and earned the save pitching an inning and a third.
The Intimidators went ahead first taking the lead off Catfish starter Julio Pimentel in the third inning. Cory Haggerty led off with a one out double. Robert Valido followed with a run scoring single. Ricardo Nanita drove in Valido with a single and scored on a Leo Daigle ground out to go ahead, 3-0.
It was an impressive start for Gio Gonzalez, unfortunately, he would not factor in the decision. The first round supplemental pick in this year's draft tossed five scoreless innings allowing just three hits while striking out three.
The series four game series wraps up on Monday night at 7:00pm. The Kannapolis nine return home on August 11th at 7:05pm vs. the Savannah Sand Gnats. For more information, or to order tickets contact the Intimidators at 704-932-3267.
