New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release


(Trenton, NJ)---The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (17-12) extended their winning streak to 5 games, sweeping a doubleheader today (Tuesday) from the Trenton Thunder 10-3, and 2-1.

Center fielder Justin Singleton and Shortstop Aaron Hill homered in the nightcap to make a winner out of Ryan Houston (1-0). Singleton hit his 3rd homer, a solo shot, in the 3rd inning. Hill hit his homer in the 4th off starter Rik Currier (1-2). It was Hill's 2nd homer of the season, and proved to be the game-winner.

Houston pitched 5 innings, allowing 1 hit,1 ER, 5 BB and 4 K's. Jordan Dejong pitched a scoreless sixth, and Adam Peterson worked the 7th inning to earn his league-leading 7th save.

In the opener, the Fisher Cats exploded for 7 runs on 7 hits in the 7th inning to break a 3-3 tie. DH John-Ford Griffin doubled in 3 runs with the bases loaded to break the tie. The next four batters also delivered hits as the team set a record for most runs in a game (10), most hits in a game (14), most runs in an inning (7) and most hits in an inning (7).

New Hampshire pitchers Todd Ozias and Kevin Frederick did not allow an earned run in the opener. Frederick (1-0) earned his first win. Ozias allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings, but left with two on and nobody out in the sixth. Trenton scored 3 runs in the inning to tie the game with the help of 2 Fisher Cats errors.

New Hampshire had taken a 3-0 lead in the second off starter and loser Sean Henn (1-1). Justin Singleton drove in Matt Logan and Jose Umbria with a triple to right field, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyrell Godwin.

The teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow (Wednesday) beginning at 6:05pm. Manager Mike Basso will call on lefty Derek Lee (0-3) in the opener against Trenton's Chien-Ming Wang (1-2). Brandon League (0-2) makes his first New Hampshire start in the nightcap against a pitcher still to be named.
