RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – The Carolina League and California League All-Star teams were selected by the representatives of both leagues, for the Century 21 California-Carolina League All-Star Game to be played on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Four Wilmington Blue Rocks, including top Carolina League vote-getter right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke, were selected to the team. Catcher Scott Walter, infielder Andres Blanco and right-handed pitcher Kyle Middleton were named as reserves to the team.

The Carolina League All-Star team will feature five players from the Winston-Salem Warthogs; four from the Blue Rocks, Lynchburg Hillcats, and Myrtle Beach Pelicans; three from the Frederick Keys and one from the Kinston Indians, Potomac Cannons and the Salem Avalanche. Lynchburg skipper Dave Clark will manage the team, and Kinston manager Torey Luvello of Kinston will serve as coach. Thomas Pribyl of Lynchburg will serve as the trainer.

On the California League All-Star team, host Rancho Cucamonga and Lake Elsinore each will send four players; Stockton, Lancaster and Bakersfield will send three; Inland Empire sends two; while High Desert, Modesto, San Jose and Visalia each sends one. Bobby Meacham, manager of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, will skipper the California League team. Rancho Cucamonga hitting coach Zeke Zimmerman will serve as coach, while Quakes' trainer Armando Rivas will serve as trainer.

Greinke will play in his first career All-Star Game. The 19-year-old is 9-0 with a league-leading 1.17 ERA. He was Carolina League Pitcher of the Week the weeks of May 8-14 and May 15-21. Walter is hitting .276 with 11 doubles, five homeruns and 34 RBI in 2003. Blanco is batting .274 with eight doubles and three triples on the season. Middleton is 6-2 on the season with a league third-best 2.07 ERA in 12 starts. The Pensacola, FL native was Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the weeks of April 4-10 and April 24-30.
