The New Orleans Zephyrs snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday night, shutting out the Fresno Grizzlies 3-0 in the finale of the four-game series.
Z's starter Jorge Sosa pitched brilliantly, allowing just four hits over six innings while striking out seven and walking one.
He also helped his own cause at the plate, leading off the third inning with a single. Center fielder Emilio Bonifacio laced a single of his own, advancing Sosa to second.
Two outs later, Hector Luna ripped a two-run double to right field, scoring both Sosa and Bonficaio and giving the Zephyrs all the support they would need.
In his first game back in New Orleans, John Raynor went 2-for-3 on the evening, and scored the Zephyrs' third run of the game.
Bonifacio contributed the only other multi-hit effort for the Zephyrs, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Sosa improves to 3-1 on the year, while Fresno starter Joe Martinez dropped to 3-1 with the loss. Martinez pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while also striking out seven.
New Orleans now hosts the Sacramento River Cats for a four-game tilt which begins on Saturday from Zephyr Field with Military Night. All former and current military servicemen and women, along with their families, are admitted into the game for free with presentation of their military identification card.
