Z's lose in ridiculous fashion

The Zephyrs and Express played ten innings on Saturday night and neither team could score a run. The eleventh inning brought an entirely different turn of events. The Z's scored 4 runs in the top of the inning and the Express rallied for 5 runs to win 5-4.

Round Rock snapped a four game losing streak in front of 9,906 fans at the Dell Diamond. The pitchers duel matched Z's starter Rick VandenHurk against Express hurler Bud Norris. The two impressed limiting both offenses. Norris didn't allow a hit for 5 1/3 innings. The bullpens continued the same success until the 11th.

Manny Mayorson slapped a base hit into shallow rightfield scoring Dave Matranga to break the scoreless tie. Gaby Sanchez then drilled a mammoth home run to left to lift the Z's to a 4-0 lead. The Express sent nine batters to the plate in the 11th inning scoring 5 runs. The winning run scored in improbable fashion. Bases loaded and one out Tommy Manzella hit a soft roller to the mound and Nate Field threw home for the second out. Brett Hayes attempted a double play and his throw to first sailed high and into right field allowing the runner from second base to score.

Nate Field suffered the loss and Geoff Geary gets credited with the win
