Last At-Bat Homer Sinks Sounds On Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City catcher Max Ramirez belted a two-out, two-run home run off R.J. Swindle in the bottom of the ninth inning to power the RedHawks to a last at-bat, 5-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Saturday evening at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Ramirez's blast, which also scored Joaquin Arias, was his third longball of the year and resulted in the fourth last at-bat defeat of the year for Nashville (41-29).

The top of the order continued to get it done for Nashville as leadoff man Jason Bourgeois turned in his ninth multiple-hit effort in his last 12 games with a 2-for-4 evening. Number two batter Alcides Escobar also went 2-for-4 for the Sounds.

Right fielder Brendan Katin gave the Sounds a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double to left off Oklahoma City starter Bryan Corey.

The RedHawks evened the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the frame when Emerson Frostad led off with a single then scored on Greg Golson's RBI double to right that was misplayed by Katin, allowing Golson to come all the way around to score the tying run.

Nashville pulled back ahead in the top of the fifth. Catcher Angel Salome led off with a double to left then scored the go-ahead run later in the frame on Cole Gillespie's sacrifice fly. Hernan Iribarren pushed the lead to 4-2 when he singled home Jason Bourgeois.

Oklahoma City pulled back within a run at 4-3 in the sixth when Casey Benjamin scored on a Steven Murphy sacrifice fly.

Neither team scored again until the decisive ninth.

RedHawks reliever Brian Gordon (5-2) was the beneficiary of the late Oklahoma City rally, recording the victory after working one scoreless inning. Swindle (2-1) was handed the defeat after suffering his second blown save of the year.

Mike Burns was denied his team-leading eighth victory of the year for the Sounds as a result of the blown save. The right-hander allowed three runs (one earned) on 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings of work, his ninth quality start of the season, to drop his ERA to 2.55 on the year.

The teams wrap up the series with 4:05 p.m. finale on Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Chase Wright (4-5, 4.09) will make the start for Nashville to square off against RedHawks right-hander Neftali Perez (3-5, 4.04).
