Game Keys: Temperatures were near freezing and flurries were the air as the Nashville Sounds drilled a pinch hit walk off home run in the ninth inning to defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs 4-3. Calix Crabbe led the ninth inning off with the solo home run to right field. The Z's rallied in the game trailing 2-0 the seventh scoring a pair of runs to tie the game. Carlos Gomez drove in a run the eighth inning to give the Z's a 3-2 lead. The Sounds tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with a pair of doubles to set up the dramatic finish. Anderson Hernandez led the Zephyrs with a pair of hits. Jose Capellan pitched the ninth and earned the win and Jon Adkins gets a blown save and the loss. Z's starter Jason Vargas pitched six innings and allowed two runs.
Game Notes: First pitch temperature at Greer Stadium was 36 degrees and it was 31 degrees when the game ended The Z's took pre-game batting practice indoors due to flurries and the cold temperatures. The Zephyrs defeated Nashville in the opener snapping a four game opening day losing streak. The win for the Zephyrs gave them a victory in the first contest as a Mets affiliate. The Z's won their first game as an affiliate of the Brewers in 1993, lost their first as an Astros in 1997and lost their first as a Nationals affiliate in 2005.
