AVON, Ohio - The Miners (13-6) broke a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win against Lake Erie (7-12) Friday night. Ryan Zink was untouchable for Southern Illinois, tossing seven scoreless innings. The big righty retired the last 10 batters he faced to improve to 2-0 on the season.

For the second night in a row, both Miners runs crossed the plate on sacrifice flies. Eric Suttle hit one in the third, and Kenji Sakaguchi hit one in the seventh.

Erik Draxton entered in the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead and recorded his sixth save of the season despite allowing a solo home run to Kellen Kulbacki to break up the shutout.

With the win and a rainout in Florence, the Miners are once again alone in first place with a half game lead. Southern Illinois is now a perfect 4-0 against Lake Erie this season. Saturday night the Miners will try to make it two in a row when Sean Teague takes the hill, looking to improve to 2-0. Lake Erie will toss Travis Risser. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. Central Time from Lake Erie.
