Joliet Slammers News Release

JOLIET SLAMMERS (8-10) @ EVANSVILLE OTTERS (4-14)

Friday, June 10 - 6:35 p.m. CST

Bosse Field - Evansville, IN

Game #19 - Road Game #10 (8-10, 3-6)

RHP #27 ANDREW MOSS (1-1, 3.15 ERA) vs. LHP #31 MIKE ANTON (0-1, 7.36 ERA)

Last Time Out.

The Slammers lost their third straight game Thursday, falling to the Florence Freedom 5-4 on a ninth-inning, walk-off single. The Slammers took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBI singles by Kyle Maunus and Ben Hewett. Florence responded in the third inning with three runs, aided by two Slammer errors. Freedom outfielder Drew Rundle extended the lead to 4-2 thanks to a solo home run in the fourth. The Slammers rallied in the eighth inning to tie the game at four on an Erik Lis two-run triple. However, the Freedom got to Ryan Quigley in the bottom of the ninth, becoming the first team this season to score a run off of him when Stephen Shults hit a walk-off single. The loss dropped the Slammers into a tie for third place in the Eastern Division, and gave the Freedom a share of the Western Division lead.

For Starters.

Andrew Moss is 1-1 on the year for the Slammers, compiling an impressive 3.15 ERA in three starts. After losing his first start of the year to Windy City, Moss has rebounded nicely, delivering two strong performances. In each of his last two starts, Moss lasted seven and a third innings, giving up only two earned runs. Moss earned the win in his most recent start, also against Evansville, despite giving up eight hits.

Trend Setter.

In only six games with the Slammers on the season, Yasel Gutierrez has made his presence known, both on the field and in the record books. Last Sunday, Gutierrez smacked the first grand slam in franchise history. He added another Slammer first Wednesday night, when he legged out an inside-the-park home run in Florence.

Throwing Up Zeroes.

The Slammers have two relievers in their bullpen who have yet to allow a run on the season-Aaron Dott and Brian Smith. To go along with a stellar ERA of 0.00, both relievers are also holding opponents to under a .100 batting average against.

Five is the magic number.

The Slammers are 7-1 when scoring five or more runs in a game. They are 1-9 when scoring fewer than five runs.

Offensive explosion.

The eight runs the Slammers scored in the fourth inning on Sunday are more than they've scored on the season in the first (4), third (3), sixth (4), and ninth (1) innings. The 11 runs the Slammers scored were the most they've tallied in one game and more than they totaled in the entire Windy City series (5) earlier in the year.

Swept away.

The Slammers' sweep of Evansville this past weekend was the first in franchise history. It came at the right time too as they had just been swept for the first time in franchise history the series before against Florence.

Save me.

Joliet native Ryan Quigley has been nearly untouchable as the closer for the Slammers. In 7 appearances, Quigley has struck-out ten batters in six and a third innings, giving up only four hits. He is tied for 2nd in the Frontier League with four saves and has a stellar earned run average of 1.42. Quigley has yet to blow a save this season.

Transaction Wire.

OF Josh Flores was activated from the Disabled List today and OF Thomas Creal was put on the 7-Day Disabled List with a sore shoulder.
