June 7, 2006 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane Chief defenseman Sean Zimmerman has signed a contract with the National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils. The announcement was made by Devils' CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per New Jersey policy, no further terms were disclosed. Zimmerman will attend his second training camp with the Devils in September.
The 19-year-old was selected in the sixth round of last year's NHL Entry Draft. Zimmerman is a three year veteran of the Chiefs and was named the John "Hitman" Hern Defenseman of the Year last season for Spokane. In his rookie year, 2003-04, Zimmerman was named the Chiefs Rookie of the Year and has played 210 career games, scored eight goals, 37 points and posted 80 penalty minutes. Last season, Zimmerman was tied for the team lead with a +3 and has never had a season where he was a minus. After the regular season, Zimmerman signed an amateur try-out contract with the Devils' farm club, the Albany River Rats, and appeared in four games in the American Hockey League.
Zimmerman will return to Spokane and play as a 19- year-old in the 2006-07 season.
