LANGLEY, BC- The Prince George Cougars (15-17-1-1) earned a weekend sweep over the Vancouver Giants (15-17-2-0) after a 4-2 win at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday night.
The Cougars defeated Vancouver 3-2 in overtime on Friday, as they moved into a third-place tie with the Giants in the B.C. Division. Prince George has won four of their last five meetings with Vancouver.
GAME RECAP
Koehn Ziemmer led the way with a pair goals and Ethan Samson and Jonny Hooker also found the back of the net. Ziemmer scored his two goals in a span of 52 seconds, which is the second-fastest two goals by one player the WHL this season. Ziemmer's two quick goals put the Cougars up 2-0 after the opening frame.
Samson scored his third goal in the last two games, after he hammered a point shot on the power-play in the middle frame to put Prince George up 3-0. Hooker sealed the victory with his empty net goal inside the final half minute of regulation.
Tyler Brennan was again excellent, as he stopped 27 of 29 shots in the Cougars' crease. Brennan stopped 64 of 68 in his two wins on the weekend.
QUOTE
"We found different ways to win this weekend and that is so important for our young group. Friday, we battled back to win in overtime, but tonight we had a great start and then had some puck management issues. Vancouver put us on our heels a bit in the back half of the game, but we found a way to survive it. The last two games were certainly different ways to win and that is an encouraging sign," said Associate Coach Josh Dixon.
