New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs scored three times in the top of the sixth inning and held on to defeat the Nashville Sounds 4-3 at Greer Stadium in Nashville. Zephyr starter Jose Santiago earned his third consecutive win as a starting pitcher, he filled in as a spot starter for the ailing Jason Vargas.

He worked six innings and allowed one run scattering six hits. Andy Tracy drove home the games first run in the first inning with a two out single into centerfield. The Sounds responded in the bottom of the inning scoring a run. The game was tied at one when Sounds starter Zach Jackson dropped a foul ball in front of the Zephyrs dugout. The pitcher was charged an error and the next pitch was laced into right-center field for a triple by Anderson Hernandez.

Hernandez scored on a sac fly from Ricky Ledee and the Z's tacked on two more runs in the inning. Tracy drove home a couple a runs and had two hits in the game. Hernandez tripled, doubled and singled and batted in the ninth with a chance to hit for the cycle but struckout. Joe Smith entered the game with a one run lead in the eighth inning and earned the final five outs and the save. The Z's made some great defensive plays from Jake Gautreau, Fernando Tatis and Tracy in the ninth to preserve the win.

Jackson suffered the loss for Nashville and fell to 9-9. The win snaps a two game losing streak and a four game losing streak on the road. New Orleans leads the series 1-0.
