Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Gregorio Petit was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Dee Brown belted a three-run homer and Colby Lewis struck out 10 batters in five strong innings to lead the Sacramento River Cats to an 8-4 victory over the Portland Beavers in the first of a four-game series between the two clubs at PGE Park Tuesday night.
Lewis (8-2) fanned 10 of the 23 batters he faced, allowing just one unearned run and five hits for the win, extending the Beavers' losing streak to five games in the process.
Jermaine Van Buren worked the final 2 1/3 innings to get his first save with the River Cats (73-51).
Ray Chang had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Beavers (49-75), who out-hit the River Cats, 12-11.
In his first start since rejoining the Beavers from San Diego, Jack Cassel (7-12) was the recipient of the loss, allowing eight runs (4 earned) and 11 hits in five innings of work.
With a one-run lead after three innings, the River Cats, who have won five straight, rode a four-run fourth, which was highlighted by Brown's three-run blast, and added a pair in the fifth on the way to an 8-1 advantage.
The Beavers plated a run in the sixth when Peter Ciofrone scored on a groundout from Mike Epping, and Chang's two-out, two-RBI single to right in the seventh got the Beavers to within 8-4.
The Beavers play host to the River Cats again Wednesday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
