Zephyrs Shut Out by Express

The New Orleans Zephyrs were shut out by the visiting Round Rock Express on Sunday 3-0.

Former Zephyrs pitcher Brandon Backe (1-1), starting in a rehab assignment for the Houston Astros, picks up the win after allowing only four hits and no runs in five innings. Another former Zephyrs pitcher, Philip Barzilla recorded his first save of the season after giving up four hits and no runs in the final four innings.

Second baseman Brooks Conrad led the way offensively for Round Rock, hitting a two-run homer in the third inning to start the scoring.

Third baseman Danny Klassen went 2-2 and drove in the other run for the Express.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Philip Humber (10-8) gets the loss after giving up three runs on five hits in five innings of play.

With the series at 2-1, the teams will face off again on Monday in a game scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
