Cubs Continue to Score Late

The Iowa Cubs won their third straight game against the Oklahoma RedHawks, taking the third game of their four-game set 7-4 Sunday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Cubs have outscored the RedHawks 22-5 after the sixth inning so far through three games at The Brick.

Oklahoma (59-60) scored first for the second consecutive day, getting a run in the third inning when a Victor Diaz single scored Freddy Guzman.

Iowa (68-54) tied the game at one with a run in the fourth. In the sixth, the Cubs scored two runs on two hits to take a 3-1 lead.

For the third day in a row, the Cubs blew the game open late, scoring three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth to make the score 7-4. Iowa finished the game with 12 hits.

The RedHawks tried to rally in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits. But in the ninth they failed to capitalize on a bases loaded situation and dropped their fifth straight game at The Brick.

Juan Mateo (2-3) earned the win, allowing just one run on five hits in six innings. Clay Rapada pitched the ninth for his 17th save of the season.

Alfredo Simon (4-10) took the loss by allowing six runs on 10 hits in 6.1 innings.

The series finale is Monday at 7:05 pm CDT at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
