LAST GAME:

The RedHawks lost their fourth straight game at The Brick, losing to the Cubs 12-1 last night. The RedHawks broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Desi Relaford hit a two-out solo homer. That would be all the offense the RedHawks would get as they failed to get a runner past second base the rest of the game. The Cubs offense exploded for 12 runs on 15 hits, including four home runs. Jake Fox led the way for the Cubs, going 3-for-5 with three homers and six RBIs. Iowa scored four runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead, and they added three runs in the seventh and five in the eighth, hitting at least one homer in each of those three innings. Starter Eric Hurley took the loss by allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Alfredo Simon

gets the ball for the 21st time this season. He didn't figure in the decision Monday at Sacramento, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings. STRUGGLING AT THE BRICK:

Since June 27th, the RedHawks have had more success on the road than they have at The Brick, going 16-6 on the road and just 6-13 at home. The Hawks have a 2.99 ERA on the road during that stretch compared to a 5.29 ERA at home. RedHawk hitters are hitting .282 on the road with 28 homers and .274 with 17 homers at home since June 27th.

BULLPEN HAS TOUGH NIGHT:

The RedHawk relievers came into last night's game with a 1.51 ERA with 39 strikeouts over the previous 41.2 innings before the game. They didn't enjoy that kind of success last night as Randy Williams and Steve Rowe combined to give up eight runs on eight hits, including three home runs, in two innings of work.

RELAFORD AT THE PLATE:

Relaford hit his sixth homer of the season for the RedHawks last night. He has at least one hit in four of his last five games, going 6-for-17 (.353) with a homer and four RBIs since rejoining the RedHawks Aug. 5.
