Carter Homers Again To Lead Sidewinders In Win

Tucson, Ariz. - The Tucson Sidewinders defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 5-4, despite Fresno's attempts to come back.

Chris Carter put the Sidewinders ahead in the bottom of the fourth inning on his three-run home run. Carter hit his second three-run home run in as many games.

The inning started when Alberto Callaspo doubled. Alex Romero grounded out which moved Callaspo to third. Jeff Salazar followed with a walk to put runners on first and third. Carter lined a 1-1 pitch over the right field fence to make the score 4-2.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Tucson added another run on a fielder's choice by Romero that scored Rich Thompson from third to bring the score to 5-2.

The Sidewinders scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third when Thompson doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Enrique Gonzalez. Gonzalez reached first after Fresno pitcher Chris Begg tried getting Thompson at third but failed. Thompson scored when Callaspo grounded into a double play.

The Grizzlies took the lead in the top of the second inning after Justin Leone walked and moved to third on Eliezer Alfonzo's single. Begg lined a pitch into right field to score Leone.

Fresno added their second run in the top of the third when Nate Shierholtz doubled and scored on a Fred Lewis single to give the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead.

After the Sidewinders had already taken the lead, the Grizzlies chipped away with a run in the top of the eighth. Alfonzo singled in Fred Lewis to cut the score to 5-3. They added another in the top of the ninth when Scott McClain singled to score Luis Figueroa and make it a one run lead for the Sidewinders.

Gonzalez pitched six strong innings allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four.
