
Zephyrs Score Two in Ninth to Defeat Beavers, 5-3

PORTLAND, Oregon -- Eric Bruntlett hit a two-run single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs (43-31) over the Portland Beavers (38-37), 5-3 on Thursday Night in Portland.
Bruntlett, who finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI, singled off Portland closer Courtney Duncan to break up a 3-3 tie. Jason Alfaro, who started the rally for New Orleans in the ninth with a one-out double, had three hits and scored twice. Brandon Puffer (3-1) allowed just a hit over 1 2/3 innings to pick up the win and Rob Stanifer tossed a perfect bottom of the ninth for his fourth save of the year for the Zephyrs, who have won four in a row and six of their last seven.
Bernabel Castro was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Khalil Greene finished 2-for-4 with a run knocked in for Portland. Greene is batting .409 (9-for-22) over his last six games for the Beavers, who have lost five straight at home. Duncan (1-4) took the loss, giving up two runs and two hits in just an inning of work. He is now 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA and no saves over his last five appearances.
