Metairie, LA – Jason Lane and Henri Stanley each had three hits to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs (67-62) to an 8 to 3 victory over the Iowa Cubs (62-67) on Sunday Night at Zephyr Field.

The Cubs took a 2 to 0 lead in the first inning as Phil Hiatt hit a two run homer, his 24th of the season, off Zephyrs starter D.J. Houlton. Stanley led off the bottom of the inning with a single off Cubs starter Steve Smyth. After Royce Huffman was hit by Smyth, Stanley scored on a single from Lane. Huffman scored on a double play ground out from Jason Alfaro to tie the score at 2.

Stanley would put the Z's ahead for good with a solo home run with one out in the third inning to make the score 3 to 2. Stanley finished the night 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. He now has 82 runs scored on the season which ties for second best in New Orleans Zephyrs history. Russ Johnson holds the record with 95 runs scored in 1998. Lane finished the night 3-4 with two RBI.

Houlton (3-1) picked up the win pitching seven innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four. Smyth (5-10) suffered the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing six runs on eight hits.

The Zephyrs moved to 4 /12 games of first place Nashville as the Sounds lost to Tacoma on Sunday. The series with the Cubs concludes on Monday at 7:05 PM. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs and Ron Swoboda calling the action.
