BILOXI, MS - With the bases loaded, two outs and the game tied at four in the bottom of the ninth inning, Freddy Zamora stepped in and played hero for the Biloxi Shuckers (47-45, 13-10) with a walk-off single in a 5-4 win over the Birmingham Barons (33-58, 8-14) at MGM Park on Wednesday night. The win was the Shuckers' second straight over the Barons and kept pace with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for first place in the Southern League South Division, who won against the Mississippi Braves.

At the start, Zavier Warren captured the spotlight for the Shuckers. In the first inning, he smashed a two-run home run to right, scoring himself and Isaac Collins who reached on a single and stole second. Then, in the third, Collins drew a walk, made it to second on a wild pitch and was brought in by an RBI single to right-center from Warren, extending the lead to 3-0.

On the mound, Shuckers' starter Christian Mejias dazzled over the first four innings. He allowed three baserunners, one hit and struck out five, including four through the first two. In the fifth, Adam Hackenberg homered to left and a balk brought in Taylor Snyder, making it 3-2. Mejias, however, got out of the inning, marking three straight starts with at least five innings of work.

After Zamora and Murray led off the sixth with a pair of walks, a groundout to short from Tristen Lutz scored Zamora, making it 4-2. In the eighth, Ryan Brady struck out two on hard sliders before a popout for a perfect inning of work. He worked into the ninth and came one strike away from his first Double-A save, but two walks brought in Cam Robinson with two on. The first ball in play resulted in an error and a two-RBI single from Xavier Fernandez tied the game at four.

In the bottom of the ninth, Tyler Black roped a one-out double to left, and a walk to Jackson Chourio put runners on the corners. Reliever Fraser Ellard recorded a strikeout for the second out, but he hit Wes Clarke, loading the bases for Zamora. The shortstop then blooped a ball into short right-center, over second baseman Alsander Womack's head, for the Shuckers' fifth walk-off win of the year. Robinson (2-1) earned the win while Ellard (0-1) took the loss.
