Zack Larson rejoins Kernels from GCL Twins

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF Zack Larson will rejoin the Kernels from the GCL Twins and that LHP Josue Montanez has been placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to August 16th. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

Larson went on the DL back on May 10th with a right hamstring strain. He had been on a rehab assignment and was formally transferred to the GCL Twins roster on August 8th. In 32 games for the Kernels, he is batting .292 with 11 doubles, a home run and 19 RBI.

Montanez goes on the DL with a rotator cuff strain. In 21 games for the Kernels (six starts) he has a 1-4 record and 7.22 ERA. In 52.1 IP, he has allowed 61 hits and 49 runs (42 earned) with 26 walks and 52 strikeouts.

Larson is active and available for tonight's 6:35 pm home game against Quad Cities. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL.

The Kernels continue a six game home stand tonight at 6:35 pm against the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Midwest League affiliate of the Houston Astros. It's Dollar Monday where regular hot dogs, popcorn, chips, ice cream sandwiches and Cracker Jack are each just $1, plus get $1 taquitos at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
