Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - Defender Zachary Brault-Guillard has received a call-up from the Canadian national team as part of the team's 2023 Gold Cup roster.
Canada will begin its Gold Cup campaign on Tuesday, June 27, at 7pm EDT at Toronto's BMO Field against the winner of the preliminary round match between Guadeloupe and Guyana. Les Rouges will then play their next two group stage matches in Houston against Guatemala on Saturday, July 1, at 9:30pm EDT at Shell Energy Stadium, followed by Cuba on Tuesday, July 4, at 6:30pm EDT.
The top two nations from Group D will advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday, July 9, in Cincinnati. The semifinals will be played on Wednesday, July 12, in San Diego, California and Paradise, Nevada. The final will be held on July 12 at SoFi Stadium in California.
Brault-Guillard, 24, has seven caps with the Canadian senior national team, having made his debut on October 16, 2018, against Dominica in a Concacaf Nations League qualifier. He scored his first goal on June 2, 2021, in a 7-0 World Cup qualifying match against Aruba. His most recent cap was recorded on November 11, 2022, in a friendly against Bahrain in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.
The Montrealer has played 12 games with CF Montréal this season, including four starts, for a total of 470 minutes. He also had four appearances in the 2023 Canadian Championship. The fullback notably found the back of the net in Montreal's most recent match, a 4-0 win over Minnesota United FC on June 10 at Stade Saputo.
The Gold Cup is Concacaf's (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) flagship men's soccer tournament in the region. Held every two years, the tournament brings together the confederation's top national teams to crown a continental champion. Initially comprising eight teams, the Gold Cup has developed into a 16-nation competition. Qualification is earned through the Concacaf Nations League and the Gold Cup preliminary rounds.
The Gold Cup has been contested 16 times. Mexico holds the record with eight titles, followed by the United States with seven and Canada with one, obtained in 2000.
