Victoria Seals News Release

Yuma, AZ - Hoping to bounce back from a big loss in the series opener, the Victoria Seals returned to Desert Sun Stadium for game two against the Yuma Scorpions on Saturday night. Sending Kyle Wilson (0-0) to the hill for the start, the Seals faced undefeated Gilbert De La Vera (2-0) on the mound for the home side.

Taking a commanding lead in the bottom of the second, the Scorpions aimed to bury the Seals early in game two. After a base hit from Santo De Leon set up an RBI single off the bat of Ruben Sanchez, Johny Celis launched his second home run in as many nights over the right field fence to make it 3-0 Yuma.

Before the frame was out, the Scorpions added another set of hits to post a six-run second frame for the early advantage. Stretching their lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the third, three consecutive singles from Celis, Carlos Domingues and De La Vera put the Seals in a big hole through three complete.

Yuma wasn't done there either, as a lead-off home run from Lee Cruz chased Wilson from the game in the fourth, before another set of back-to-back singles from Celis and Domingues along with another Victoria error sent the game to the fifth with the Scorpions leading 11-0.

Responding with some offense of their own in the top of the fifth, a single from Wilver Perez followed by an RBI double off the bat of Colin Moro and a run-scoring hit courtesy of Terrence McClain put a pair on the board for the Seals. But Yuma returned with a set of runs for the fourth straight inning, getting a lead-off double from Masjid Khairy with the help of yet another Victoria error to open up a 14-2 advantage.

With the Scorpions offense done for the night, Victoria closed the game with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth with the help of a sacrifice fly from Charlie Strandlund. Attempting an improbable rally in the top of the ninth, the Seals added three more runs on a pair of hit batters and another sacrifice fly from Strandlund. But with the game out of reach early on, the deficit proved to be too much for the Seals, who dropped a club-record sixth consecutive contest by a 14-8 final score.

Gilbert De La Vera rode his club's offense to his third win of the season, while Kyle Wilson was roughed up for the first time in 2010, and was handed his lone loss of the year. Terrence McClain's 3-for-5 outing was not enough to spur the Seals, as a four-hit, two RBI performance from Johny Celis led Yuma to their ninth win in a row.
