Chico Outlaws News Release

(Tijuana, Mexico) Just like game one of the series between the Outlaws and Cimarrones on Friday night, Saturday's game brought out the lumber, with Chico scoring crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth innings enroute to a 10-4 at Red Hills Stadium in Tijuana.

Garret Holleran (2-1) got the start for the Outlaws in pitched into the eighth inning. Surrendering just three runs over his seven-plus innings, Holleran stymied the Cimarrones' bats and got a couple of key double play ground balls in the fourth and fifth innings to keep Tijuana at bay.

The Outlaws scored first in the top of the second inning with two outs off Cimarrones starter David Rivas. Ismael Castro hit a double and was followed by Robby Alcombrack, who hit a ground ball to Cimarrones' shortstop Ivan Ochoa, who misplayed the ball, allowing Castro to score the unearned run for a 1-0 lead. Ochoa was charged with an error on the play.

Tijuana knotted it up at 1-1 in the home half of the second on a solo homerun by first baseman Carlos Lopez, his second of the year.

Chico got their second run in the top of the fourth when with one out when Mikael Jova, who went 4 for 5 in the game, hit a one-out double. Rich Janeway then smoked an RBI single into right field to put the Outlaws back on top for the game at 2-1.

In the fifth inning, the Outlaws put up three runs. Shortstop Alex Prieto led off the inning with a double and was advanced to third on a Holleran sacrifice bunt. Center fielder Blake Gailen then drove in Prieto with a single. One batter later, consecutive hits by JJ Sherrill and Mikael Jova loaded the bases for Janeway. Jova's hit knocked Cimarrones' pitcher David Rivas to the ground, as the line drive hit him on the right shoulder area and forced him out of the game. Tijuana brought in reliever Carlos Artiles, who was knocked around by the Outlaws on Friday night. Artiles faced Rich Janeway with the bases loaded, walking the slugger for Chico, bringing home Gailen for the second run of the frame. Castro worked a second walk out of Artiles, driving in the third run of the inning in the form of Sherrill, making it 5-1 in favor of the Outlaws.

More damage was put up on the scoreboard in the sixth by Chico. Prieto walked and made it to second after Holleran sacrificed on a bunt, but reached first due to an error by Artiles. Gailen then hit a single to bring up Sherrill, who then crushed a ball over the right field fence for a grand slame homerun and a 9-1 lead. Elio Serrano was summoned from the Cimarrones bullpen and promply gave up singles to Jova and Janeway. Castro then hit a double, his second extra base hit of the night, sending Jova home with the Outlaws final run of the night.

Tijuana got two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Holleran after a leadoff walk to Ochoa led to an RBI double by the former San Francisco Giant Juan Melo. Right fielder Jackson Melian then hit an RBI single to drive in Melo. Right hander Josh Dew came out of the Outlaws bullpen to replace Holleran, recording a force out on a fielder's choice by Kit Pellow and then inducing a 5-4-3 double play ball off the bat of Juan Velasquez.

The Cimarrones Carlos Lopez hit his second homerun of the game and third of the season, a solo shot, off Dew in the ninth for the final score of 10-4.

With the win, Chico is now 11-3 and sits in first place in the GBL's North Division. Tijuana drops to 2-12 on the year and they are in last place in the GBL South. The Cimarrones lone two wins of the year came against the Outlaws during the May 28th-May 31st series at Nettleon Stadium.
