Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, AB - There were lots of chrome domes during Salute to Baldness night at Telus Field but the Edmonton Capitals looked a little rusty with two errors in the first inning on the way to a 4 - 1 defeat Saturday at the hands of Na Koa Ikaika Maui. Edmonton's defence struggled throughout the game and another costly error in the eighth inning contributed to Maui's third and fourth runs. "Anytime you make errors and runs score you're not going to win. " said Capitals Field Manager Brent Bowers. "Those errors really took the air out of us. The defence just wasn't there tonight."
While the defence struggled, the pitching was a bright spots as Caps starter Evan White pitched six strong innings giving up only one earned run while striking out seven. Unfortunately for White he was still charged with the loss as one of the first inning errors led to Maui's second run. The islanders did have an opportunity for a third run in the inning, but in what was perhaps the only defensive highlight for the Caps on the night right-fielder Tim Battle threw out Maui's Mark Okano at home plate for the third out.
Edmonton scattered eight hits in the game but never seemed to be able to string them together to provide some offense. Battle hit a solo homerun against Maui starter Jason Mackintosh in what would prove to be the Caps only run. Despite Saturday night's loss Edmonton still took three of five from Maui and will look to continue its momentum after a slower start in the month of May. The Capitals are set to open a five game series against the Orange County Flyers starting on a Family Vision Care $2 Tuesday featuring all you can drink slushies for $2. There will also be the second annual Home Run Hooky game on Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. Cheemo Ukrainian Night is on deck for Thursday. There'll be a Safeway Fireworks Friday plus another EZ Rock Saturday Night Movie featuring the baseball classic Field Of Dreams.
The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capitals season seats start at under $9 per game and individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, at (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
