Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Phantoms are continuing their search for billet families for the 2014-15 season. The response from the community has been tremendous, but there is still a need for a few more families to open their homes and join the Phantoms family.

"Being a billet family is an incredibly rewarding experience," remarked Aafke Loney, Phantoms co-owner. "By hosting a Phantom for the duration of the season, you have the opportunity to not only make an unsurpassed impact on his life, but also to become a part of our team."

The Phantoms organization continues to take vital steps-at every level-in providing the premier developmental home for junior hockey players.

"As a coach, I can speak to the importance of billet families and the positive impact they have on our players' lives," said Phantoms assistant coach Brad Patterson. "These are players just starting their hockey careers, and they need the on- and off-ice support to help them reach new levels. We greatly appreciate any family that can help them do just that."

Recently, the team agreed to a new three-year lease at the Covelli Centre to continue to play their home games at the downtown facility in Youngstown.

"The new lease is a sign of stability for this team and for the entire community, and that extends to the billet families," said Loney.

The Phantoms are members of the United States Hockey League, the top junior league in the United States for players aged 16-20 who aspire to move on to play NCAA Division I hockey, or even join the professional ranks. Many Phantoms have gone on to succeed at the next level and beyond, including NHL alumni such as Andrej Sustr and Scott Mayfield, as well as Sam Anas, who was recently named the Division I Rookie of the Year for his outstanding freshman season at Quinnipiac University.

"The development of our Phantom players is greatly aided by the generosity of our billet families," continued Loney. "Players like Sam Anas would not be where they are today without their billets providing an exceptional off-ice experience, and the same can be said of our current roster, all of whom have incredibly bright futures."

That future will continue with Youngstown Phantoms Selection Camp, to be held on June 11-15 at the Ice Zone in Boardman.

"As excited as we are to have our future on-ice team intact, we are equally as excited to have our off-ice team of billet families on board as well," said Loney.
