L.C. Walker Arena to Host Spring and Summer Youth Hockey
April 22, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan (April 22nd) - The offseason is going to be an active one during the spring and summer months at the L.C. Walker Arena in which numerous hockey training and development opportunities will be available for hockey players ages 6-18 with the Detroit Red Wings, Muskegon Lumberjacks, West Side Prep Hockey, Hockey Ministries International, and Power Edge Hockey all hosting camps within the coming months.
The L.C. Walker Arena will be hosting youth hockey clinics in May followed by summer camps and training sessions during the months of July, August, and September. In addition, there will be daily stick and puck sessions, open skating, and drop-in hockey sessions available May-August. The Muskegon Lumberjacks will hold their Open and Invitational United States Hockey League Prospect Camp from June 14th-20th.
"The overwhelming majority of elite youth hockey players in this great state live and play in the southeastern portion of the state due to easier ice accessibility, quality training, and encouragement from parents and coaches, and the players in our state that advance to the USHL level play their youth hockey in the Metro Detroit area," shared Rich McKenna, Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach for the United States Hockey League's Muskegon Lumberjacks. "Given the AAA model (HPHL and Tier 1 Elite) coupled with the density of population, training facilities, experienced coaching, and passionate players, youth hockey players have more opportunities to develop their skills both on and off the ice on the east side of the state. Part of our opportunity as an organization is to utilize our terrific facility and resources here to enable those players with both passion and talent to develop their skills and reach their full potential without having to move."
The following list highlights the camps and clinics being hosted at the L.C. Walker Arena this spring and summer:
May - Muskegon Lumberjacks Youth Clinics and Power Edge Hockey Camp (12-14th)
June - Muskegon Lumberjacks USHL Prospect Camp (14th-21st)
July - Hockey Ministries International Camp (14-18th) and Detroit Red Wings Youth Camp (21st and 22nd)
