York, PA - The York Revolution (5-4) took the series finale 2-1 over the Somerset Patriots (6-4) at People'sBank Park Sunday afternoon.
York opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on an Alonzo Harris RBI groundout. Somerset immediately responded with a Jerry Sands sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th to even the ballgame at 1-1.
The Revolution regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-out RBI double from Bryan Pounds. The Patriots threatened in the eighth inning but could not find the big hit to draw even.
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. York's Victor Mateo allowed one run over 5.2 innings of work, while Somerset righty Lucas Irvine yielded just one run over five innings.
"It felt good to be able to fill up the zone with strikes," said Irvine after the start. "I spoke with [manager] Brett [Jodie] after I came out and talked about how I was more in control today. I thought [Adam] Donachie caught a good game and we had guys out in front and swinging. It wasn't easy, but pitches were hitting spots."
Revolution reliever Chase Huchingson (1-0) earned the win with after a scoreless third of an inning in relief. David Kubiak (0-1) took the tough-luck loss on one run in three innings of relief with six strikeouts. Brad Allen (2) earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Somerset begins a four-game series against the New Britain Bees in New Britain, Connecticut beginning tomorrow night.
