York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution got a much-needed win, holding off the Somerset Patriots for a 6-5 victory in front of 2,801 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium Thursday night. The win snaps a team-record four-game home losing streak, and gets the Revs back to within 2.5 games of Somerset in the south division at 25-21. The Patriots are now 28-19 in the second half.

For the twelfth consecutive game, the opponent drew first blood with Elliott Ayala's third-inning RBI single giving Somerset the early 1-0 edge. The Revs came right back though, in the bottom half of the inning, with Nate Espy's RBI single tying the score at one apiece.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Revs seized their first lead of the homestand. Matt Dryer's leadoff homer over the Arch Nemesis put the Revolution in front 2-1. For Dryer, it was his 14th of the season, as he has gone deep on back-to-back nights.

Somerset tied things in the eighth on Jose Morban's two-out RBI single, but the Revs exploded for four in the bottom of the inning, building a 6-2 lead. Jason Aspito's RBI double tied the score, and Kazunori Tanaka's dramatic, three-run, bases-clearing triple with two outs capped the scoring.

Four Patriot hits in the ninth brought Somerset back to within a run, but Steve Smyth retired Jason Romano on a flyout to center with the tying run a third to end the game.

Bryan Edwards (8-6) picked up the win for York, turning in his longest outing of the season. He worked 8.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits. He walked three and struck out five. It was the third time this season that Edwards has worked eight innings.

Reliever Paul Thorp (2-3) took the loss for Somerset, allowing three unearned runs in one third of an inning.

The save for Smyth was his first of the season.

Espy (2-for-3, RBI) had the lone multi-hit game for the Revs, who were out-hit 11-8.

Ayala went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored for the Patriots, who also got a 2-for-3 night from Morban.
