Sharks Run All Over Bears In 10-3 Win

NEWARK, NJ - August 30, 2007 - First baseman Brad Strauss hit two two-run home runs and the Camden Riversharks stole 12 bases as they defeated the Newark Bears 10-3 on Thursday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The loss drops the Bears to 5-12 against the Riversharks this season.

Camden took a 4-0 lead with a two out rally in the first inning. Designated hitter Cristian Guerrero brought home two runs with a single and Strauss drilled his first two-run home run, a deep drive to centerfield. The Riversharks added three more in the second on two walks and a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

The Bears got a run on a throwing error in the third and added two more in the sixth on back-to-back home runs by second baseman Javier Colina and first baseman Victor Rodriguez. Colina and Rodriguez both finished the game 2-for-5.

The Riversharks padded their lead in the seventh with three runs. After an RBI single by Guerrero, Strauss hit his second two-run home run of the game, an opposite field shot to left field.

Riversharks starter Nate Buttenfield (2-0) picked up the win. In five and two-thirds, he allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits and five walks. He struck out three.

The Bears and Riversharks will play the rubber game of the three game set on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Bears' right-handed starter Delvis Pacheco (7-2) will face Camden left-hander Anthony Ferrari (10-3).
