York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution made an impressive comeback from a huge early deficit, but ultimately fell to the Bridgeport Bluefish 15-9 on Wednesday evening at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Turning a potentially miserable night into a productive one for the offense, the Revs outscored the Bluefish 9-2 over the final four innings, making a game of it. York's three-game winning streak is snapped, but the Revs will look to take three of four and earn a series win in Thursday's finale.
Bridgeport stormed in front with a four-run second inning, and made it a laugher at the time with nine in the third, leading 13-0.
The Bluefish scored their first run when starter Ryan Feierabend appeared to have Brock Peterson caught stealing between first and second, but an errant throw to second allowed Luis Lopez to score from third. Luis Rodriguez then drove an RBI double to left, and Eddie Rogers followed with a two-run homer to left field, as the Bluefish quickly had a sizeable lead.
A pair of errors also led to the first run in the third inning before the floodgates opened. Rogers and Angel Flores each produced RBI singles before Elliott Ayala stroked a two-run double to left-center. Peterson later ballooned the lead with a grand slam to left, making it a nine-run inning for Bridgeport. It was the most runs allowed in an inning this season by the Revs, and tied the fourth largest inning allowed in team history.
To the Revs' credit, they owned the latter half of the game, and even made things a bit tense in the late innings.
York scored three times each in the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings, pounding out a season-high 15 hits in the process.
Ramon Castro placed a two-run double into right field in the fifth to get the Revs on the board, and Michael Hernandez followed with his first of two sacrifice flies on the night.
Hernandez added an RBI single in the seventh, before Chris Nowak crushed a two-run homer to left field.
Liu Rodriguez lined a two-run single to right-center in the eighth, and Hernandez' second sac fly made it a 14-9 game at the time.
Bridgeport did tack on their final two runs on a sac fly by Ayala in the sixth, and an infield single from Ayala in the eighth inning, as Bridgeport's leadoff man drove in a total of four runs on the night.
Nowak led the Revs' offense going 4-for-4 with a homer and a double. It tied the Revs' season-best for hits in a game by one player, as James Shanks enjoyed his own 4-for-4 game the night before.
Rodriguez finished 3-for-5 for the Revs, notching his fourth consecutive multi-hit game.
Castro's two hits extended his hitting streak to nine consecutive games, his second nine-game streak already this season.
Bridgeport's Paul Oseguera (3-2) earned the win, allowing only three of York's nine runs in his six innings of work.
Feierabend (3-2) suffered the loss, snapping a personal three-game winning streak. He was charged with 11 runs in 2.1 innings, but only five of those were earned runs. He had allowed just five earned runs combined over his previous five starts.
Notes: The Revs had allowed two runs or fewer in each of the previous five games, but only seven of the 15 runs allowed on Wednesday night were earned runs... York's three errors tied a season-high, having only committed one error over the previous four games... the loss also snapped a three-game road winning streak for the Revs... Nowak's homer was his first since May 12, as he snapped out of a 3-for-24 funk... the Revs are averaging nine runs per game through the first three games of their road trip... York's Chris Cody (1-5, 6.00) will start Thursday's series finale against Bridgeport's Raymar Diaz (0-3, 11.78) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m... fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
