The York Revolution made history on Thursday night, tying a club record with their eighth consecutive win, and moving into first place by way of a 10-5 romp of the Camden Riversharks in front of 5,109 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs, who now own the league's longest winning streak of the season, will look to establish a new club record with a ninth straight win when they head to Southern Maryland to open a six-game road trip on Friday night.
The Revs came back twice in the early going, before ripping off a six-run fourth inning to pull away.
Richie Robnett staked Camden with an early lead on a two-run homer to right, before an out was recorded in the first inning.
The Revs had a match, as Ramon Castro singled with two outs in the first, setting up Jose Herrera who homered to right, tying the proceedings at 2-2.
Teuris Olivares crushed a first pitch homerun to left, leading off the third, hedging the Sharks back in front 3-2.
That deficit did not last long, before the Revs erupted an inning later. Herrera led off with a double, on a laser off the wall in center. James Shanks followed with his own double, on a smash down the third base line to tie it at 3-3. Ian Bladergroen was then hit in the helmet with a pitched ball, but stayed in the game to team up on a double steal with Shanks, who advanced to third. Shanks scored on a groundout by Chuck Jeroloman, and Bladergroen scored on an RBI single by Liu Rodriguez, chasing Camden starter Derell McCall, who had been acquired in a trade from York for future considerations the day before.
Scott Grimes cranked a two-run homer to left-center off reliever Eddie Camacho, and Herrera added another run on a single to right, as the Revs stormed ahead 8-3.
Herrera went 4-for-4, earning his second four-hit game in three days. He drove in four, including one more on a double down the first base line in the seventh inning, as the lead grew to 9-3. He matched a Revs' club record with three extra-base hits in one game, and now has 24 RBI in his last 15 games.
Camden plated a couple of runs in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Matt Ceriani, and a single from Estee Harris.
The Revs tacked on the final run with help of a two-out error, allowing Grimes, who had walked and stolen second, to score his league-leading 94th run of the season.
York reliever Matt Riley (4-1) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, and announced his intentions to step away from the team following the contest, as he was placed on the inactive list.
McCall (7-4) suffered the loss, as he was charged with six runs in 3.1 innings.
