York Revolution News Release
(August 27, 2016, Central Islip, NY) - Micah Owings was dominant over six innings and the York Revolution blasted three home runs in a 13-0 romp over the Long Island Ducks on Saturday night in front of 7,341 fans at Bethpage Ballpark. The win snaps a three-game skid for the Revs, who will now go for a series win on Sunday evening in the first leg of their seven-game road trip.
Owings (6-4) picked up his third straight win, allowing just four hits and striking out 10 batters over six shutout innings, retiring nine straight at one point. It marked his second double-digit strikeout game of the month.
The righty came up big right away in the bottom of the first as the Ducks put two in scoring position with no outs after a walk to Anthony Vega and a double by Fehlandt Lentini. Owings navigated his way straight out of the jam, striking out each of the next three batters to keep the game scoreless. Owings would also strike out the side in order in the fifth.
The Revs seized early control in the second against Ducks righty Mike Jackson, Jr. who was a strike away from escaping his own jam, but Josh Wilson pounded an 0-2 pitch into left-center for a base hit, giving York the game's first two runs. Wilson then stole second, and scored as Travis Witherspoon smoked an RBI double to left-center to make it 3-0.
Bryan Pounds narrowly missed a three-run home run in the second inning, launching a towering shot that sailed just foul. In the fourth, however, Pounds slammed a tape-measure blast to left-center for a two-run homer, his 11th of the season and 40th in the Atlantic League, expanding the lead to 5-0.
Joel Guzman continued the onslaught in the top of the fifth, tagging a two-run homer off the scoreboard in left-center to make it a 7-0 York lead. Kevin Rivers followed with a double to chase Jackson (0-3), and Isaias Tejeda greeted reliever Eriberto Garcia with a chopper up the middle for an RBI single, extending his hitting streak to 22 consecutive games, tying the third-longest in Revs history. Michael Rockett later nailed an RBI double to deep left, plating Tejeda to make it 9-0.
Rockett belted a two-run homer to left-center, the Revs' third two-run homer of the night, against former teammate Luis Perdomo in the top of the seventh, giving the Revs an 11-0 lead. It was Rockett's seventh of the season and sixth in the month of August.
York scored two more in the ninth on a bloop single to left by Guzman who tied a season-high with four RBI, increasing his league-leading total to 82 for the year.
Jose Arredondo backed up Owings with a scoreless seventh, and Michael Click handled the final two innings in scoreless fashion to notch the second biggest shutout win in club history, and the most lopsided victory of the season for the Revs.
Rockett finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a double, homer, three RBI, and three runs.
The Revs scored multiple runs in an inning five different times.
