Yennsy Diaz Promoted to Dunedin, Lugnuts Add Custodio

LANSING, Mich. - In conjunction with the Toronto Blue Jays, Lansing Lugnuts pitcher Yennsy Diaz has been promoted to A-Advanced Dunedin, with the Lugnuts receiving pitcher Claudio Custodio from Extended Spring Training in a corresponding move.

Diaz, 21, was named the Midwest League Player of the Month for April after leading the circuit in ERA, WHIP and lowest batting average. In a team-leading nine starts overall, Diaz was 5-1 with a 2.08 ERA, tossing 47 2/3 innings and allowing only 22 hits and 25 walks with 42 strikeouts and a league-leading .135 batting average against.

Custodio, 27, was originally signed by the New York Yankees as a teenager out of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. He played seven seasons in the Yankees' system, rising as high as A-Advanced Tampa, and batting .244 in 335 games. He converted to pitching in 2017 with the Intercounty Baseball League's Barrie Baycats in Barrie, Ontario, working in ten games, eight starts, with two complete games. In all, he tossed 55 innings, posted a 2.29 ERA, walked only 16 and struck out 80 batters.
