Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were beaten 8-0 by the Quad Cities River Bandits Tuesday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park. Wisconsin hitters were held to six hits by three River Bandits pitchers in the game.
Wisconsin (21-24) had opportunities early. Zach Clark singled to start the game, but was caught stealing in a strike-'em out, throw-'em out double play. KJ Harrison started the second inning with a double for the Rattlers. Then, River Bandits starting pitcher Leovanny Rodriguez struck out the next three batters to strand Harrison in scoring position.
That would be the last scoring chance the Rattlers would have against Rodriguez. The right-hander pitched five innings, allowed two hits, and struck out nine.
Jake Adams gave the River Bandits (24-20) a lead with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was the first of his two home runs on the day.
Quad Cities knocked Wisconsin starter Dylan File out of the game with one out in the fifth inning on a single by Jonathan Lacroix and a walk to Jonathan Arauz. Corey Julks, who was 4-for-4 with a walk in five plate appearances on Tuesday, welcomed reliever Robbie Hitt to the game with a single to left to score Lacroix. The Rattlers did get the second out of the inning when Arauz was tagged out between second on third while trying to advance on the RBI single by Julks.
Miguelangel Sierra made it 3-0 with a double to drive in Julks.
The Rattlers got reliever Patrick Mushinski on the ropes in the top of the sixth inning as Tristen Lutz walked, Demi Orimoloye singled, and Harrison walked with one out. But, Mushinski got out of the inning on a 5-2-3 double play.
Jake Meyers put the River Bandits up 5-0 in the sixth inning with a two-out, two-run double off Hitt.
Adams struck again with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. He hit this home run off Matt Hardy.
The River Bandits scored their final run in the eighth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Julks.
The Rattlers tried to avoid the shutout in the ninth inning when Gilbert Lara smacked a one-out double to right-center off reliever Luis Garcia. Pat McInerney drew a walk with two outs, but Garcia ended the game with a routine fly out to right.
The shutout loss was the first suffered by the Timber Rattlers this season. They had played their first 44 games of the season without being shutout.
Wisconsin's three-game winning streak and Quad Cities' three-game losing streak both ended with the result on Tuesday.
Game three of the series is on Wednesday evening. Christian Taugner (0-4, 4.29) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Patrick Sandoval (3-1, 3.57) is set to start for the River Bandits. Game time is 6:35pm.
The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino Pregame Show at 6:15pm. The broadcast is also available on the Tune In and IHeart Radio apps. Subscribers to MiLB.tv can watch the game over the internet.
