Peoria Chiefs News Release
Beloit, WI - A day after being shutout for the first time all season, the Peoria Chiefs returned the favor with a 1-0 win over the Beloit Snappers Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Chiefs to 23-19 on the season and 1-1 on a nine-game, eight-day roadtrip.
The game was scoreless into the ninth as the Chiefs had just two hits and Beloit only three. Jose Martinez drew a leadoff walk from reliever Jean Ruiz and moved to second on a single by Scott Hurst. A fielders' choice moved Martinez to third with Hurst out at second and JR Davis safe at first. Davis stole second and Yariel Gonzalez drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center. Elehuris Montero was hit by a pitch but Zach Kirtley flew out to left as the Chiefs stranded two runners.
Alvaro Seijas allowed three hits over 6 1/3 shutout innings in a no-decision. He walked two and struck out five while allowing just one runner past first base. Thomas St. Clair (1-2) earned the win as he retired all eight batters he faced while striking out three.
