Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ (7-9) at Tulsa Talons (13-3)

Saturday, August 1, 2009 - BOK Center 7:05 P.M. CST

The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz return to Tulsa for the second time this season to take on their in-state and Central Division arch rivals, the Tulsa Talons, in the first round of the 2009 af2 playoffs.

The Yard Dawgz enter the playoffs with a 4-game losing streak, all to playoff bound teams and three to af2 Division Champions. The Talons have also struggled recently, dropping two of their last four games. The teams will try to put the past few weeks behind them as they enter postseason play with a clean slate and the focus of ending the other's 2009 ArenaCup hopes.

"The players know it will take a complete commitment in all three phases of the game if they want to advance to the next round of the tournament," commented Head Coach Sparky McEwen.

Oklahoma City will have to find a way to stop the Talons #1 ranked scoring offense (61.8 ppg) and fifth ranked scoring defense (47.4 ppg) if they hope to advance to the second round for the first time in franchise history. The Dawgz hope their second ranked total offense (311.1 ypg) will equate to more points for the squad averaging 58.1 ppg, seventh best in af2.

With the emergence of QB Tommy Grady, the Dawgz now have two legitimate starting quarterbacks. Grady performed extremely well in his first two starts, throwing for 687 yards and 13 TDs on 65.9% passing. Robert Kent remains ranked in the top ten in 15 offensive categories despite resting for the last two weeks in preparation for the playoffs.

All Yard Dawgz games are broadcast live on 105.3 ESPN Deportes. All broadcasts are in English. Internet broadcasts of all Yard Dawgz games can be viewed by visiting www.niftytv.com.
