Florence Y'alls News Release

WASINGTON, PA - For the second consecutive night, a furious late game comeback fell just short for the Florence Y'alls as they lose tonight to the Washington Wild Things by a final score of 7-6. With the loss, the Wild Things complete the series sweep against the Y'alls and have won five of the first six games in the season series.

Trailing by five going to the eighth inning, The Y'alls led off with back-to-back hits for Alberti Chavez and Harrison DiNciola to put runners on the corners. Washington starting pitcher, Sandro Cabrera, struck out the next batter before being lifted in favor of Jake Pilarski. He walked his first batter to load the bases, but Andres Rios hit into a fielder's choice for the second out with one run scoring on the play. Still with two men on, Axel Johnson hit a bomb to right field for a three-run shot to get the Y'alls within a run.

Joe Dougherty pitched a scoreless ninth inning to keep the deficit at just one run, but the Y'alls went down in order in the top of the ninth to seal the win for Washington. Just last night, Florence pulled within the exact same 7-6 score in the eighth inning before a meltdown in the bottom of the eighth ended Florence's chance to complete that comeback attempt.

Washington jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after three innings thanks to a sacrifice fly for Scotty Dubrule and a throwing error that scored two runs. The Y'alls chipped into the deficit with an Anthony Brocato two-run home run in the fourth, his team leading eleventh of the season. Ten of Brocato's past 14 hits have left the ballpark.

The Wild Things took a 4-2 lead on a RBI double for Hector Roa and tacked on two more in the sixth thanks to a Ramon Osuna two-run home run. A fielder's choice run scored in the seventh ended the Washington scoring for the night, proving to be just enough before the Y'alls began the comeback attempt.

Cabrera takes the win for Washington, going seven 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and four runs allowed. Jake McMahill allowed six runs (four earned) for Florence across five 1/3 innings to take his first professional loss. The Y'alls out-hit the Wild Things 10-7 with two apiece going to DiNicola, Brocato, Johnson, and Cooper Edwards. The hits for Edwards are the first two of his professional career.

Florence continues its seven-game road trip tomorrow night at Schaumburg to start a four-game Fourth of July weekend series. It will be the first matchup of the season against the Boomers this season. Jared Cheek will start for Florence, and Schaumburg has yet to announce a starter.
