Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (32-45), presented by Towne Properties, fell victim to an early offensive barrage by the Lake Erie Crushers (31-46) in a 12-5 defeat at Thomas More Stadium on Saturday, August 12.
The Crushers jumped on the Y'alls and starter Edgar Martinez (3.0 IP, 6 H, 8 ER, 5 BB, 1 K) right away in the first inning. A one-out double by third baseman Zach Racusin preceded first baseman Josh Rego's two-run home run that put the Crushers ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Lake Erie piled on in the second with a five-run outburst. Left fielder Jiandido Tromp's RBI single and designated hitter Scout Knotts' bases-clearing double served as the decisive blows in the inning. After two, Lake Erie led 7-0.
The Crushers tacked on another in the third when catcher John Tuccillo hit a solo home run, but Florence scored its first run in the home half. Second baseman Jeremiah Burks' third home run of the season - and his second of the week - cut the deficit to 8-1. In the fourth inning, the Crushers grabbed back the momentum with another pair of runs. Solo home runs from Scout Knotts and right fielder Hector Roa ballooned the Lake Erie advantange to 10-1.
The Y'alls scored in the fourth on a solo home run from catcher Zade Richardson and three in the fifth when designated hitter Brennan Price hit a three-run blast, but the Y'alls did not score again against the Lake Erie bullpen. Righthander Perry Bewley and lefthander Darrien Ragins combined to put up four scoreless innings and hold off the Y'alls for good.
The victory gives Lake Erie its fourth win in five games against Florence and its first road series victory of the season in a dozen tries. Florence can salvage the series and avoid a sweep with a win on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. ET at Thomas More Stadium.
