Florence Y'alls News Release
JOLIET, IL - Anthony Brocato hit an eighth inning home run to pull the Y'alls within a run, but Florence could not complete a comeback at Duly Health and Care Field and lost to Joliet 4-3 Friday night.
The home for Brocato gives him 22 on the year, which is the most among any West Division batter and tied for third-most in the Frontier League. He has hit a home run in three consecutive games.
The long ball was part of a late-scoring offensive attack tonight that did not see the Y'alls (30-39) get on the board until the seventh inning. Alberti Chavez had an RBI single and Ray Zuberer drove one in on a sacrifice fly, but by that point the Slammers had already cemented a lead.
Joliet (34-35) scored in the second inning on a two-run home run for Carson Maxwell, his fifth home run in the last six games against Florence. Brylie Ware added an RBI single in the third, and Kyle Jacobsen had what proved to be the game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. All-Star pitcher Cole Cook backed that up on the mound with six innings of shutout baseball. The lefty has tossed 13 innings against the Y'alls this year with 12 strikeouts and just two runs allowed.
Jeremy Ovalle went six 1/3 for the Y'alls tonight and takes the loss. He struck out five and scattered six hits. Tyler Jay earned his fourth save of the season for the Slammers with a clean ninth inning. The Slammers have won five of the first six games of the season series versus the Y'alls, including all four games in Joliet.
Despite the loss, some silver linings include Brocato stretching his hitting streak to 21 games, Chavez extending his to 11 games and Rodney Tennie extending his to five games. Luis Pintor made a fantastic leaping catch at third base as well. Paxton Wallace had a three-hit game for the Slammers.
Florence will try to get back in the win column tomorrow, Saturday, August 6, at 6:05 PM CDT. Griffin Baker takes the ball for the Y'alls, opposed by Joliet's other All-Star starter, Cam Aufderheide.
