Florence Y'alls News Release

SAUGET, IL - The Y'alls and the Grizzlies traded scoreless innings through eight frames, but Harrison DiNicola broke a scoreless tie in the top of the ninth inning with an RBI-single up the middle to give the Y'alls the lead and ultimately the 1-0 win over Gateway Sunday evening at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

In the ninth, Trevor Craport reached on a one-out single and advanced to second base on a pick off throwing error by relief pitcher Tanner Cable. DiNicola immediately took advantage with the ground ball through the infield, and Craport raced around third to beat the off-line throw to score the only run of the game.

With the win, Florence has won back-to-back games to improve to 9-2 on the season, and the Y'alls remain in first place in the West Division above Evansville. Gateway - after winning the first game of the series - drops two straight and falls to 4-6.

It was definitely a pitcher duel through eight innings, though both teams had their chances. Kevin Hahn got the start for Florence and lasted five 1/3 innings. The righty allowed five hits and one walk but struck out five batters.

He did not allow a run. Jared Cheek inherited two runners in the sixth but got a fly ball out to center field for the second out. Will Baker made the catch in center, and with Jay Prather trying to tag from third to score, Baker fired a laser to home plate to cut down the go-ahead runner.

Cheek lasted two more innings, both scoreless. The righty stranded two men on in the seventh inning and left one man on in the eighth. Johnathon Tripp worked the ninth inning and picked up his fourth save of the season and his second on consecutive nights. He punched out the final two men to end the bottom of the ninth in style.

Aaron Ford was fantastic for Gateway. The southpaw did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, surrendering just two overall. He did walked three and only struck out two, but his six innings were scoreless. Carter Hayes followed with two scoreless frames before Cable allowed the only run (unearned because of the throwing error) in the ninth.

The Y'alls did leave a runner on base in both the seventh and eighth innings but could not bring either around to score.

Craport and Jordan Brower each recorded two hits for the Y'alls. Abdiel Diaz racked up two more hits for Gateway; he had six in the series. Prather had two hits for the Grizzlies.

The Y'alls will head home to Kentucky and will enjoy an off day Monday before welcoming the Evansville Otters for a pivotal three-game set. First pitch from Y'alls Ballpark on Tuesday night will come home at 6:32 PM ET.
