Yakima Baseball Club Sets 2014 Schedule
December 10, 2013 - West Coast League (WCL)
Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
Yakima, Wash. - The 2014 schedule for the Yakima Baseball Club has been released.
Opening day will be June 6 at Yakima County Stadium and will feature Yakima against the Wenatchee AppleSox. Yakima will then take their show on the road to Corvallis for a three-game series against the Knights.
"The schedule is tough, but we would not have it any other way," Director of Operations Noel Zanchelli said. "This team will play every day to win every game. We may be the newest team in the league but we will play every game believing that we can compete for a championship."
The Walla Walla Sweets, the best team in the East Division (then the North Division) in the 2013 regular season, will come to town June 30-July 2. Yakima will visit the Sweets twice this season, going to Walla Walla July 3-6 and again July 29-31. The Sweets and Yakima share an ownership group, Pacific Baseball Ventures.
"I have encouraged Noel and Katie (Baxter, Walla Walla's GM) to have fun with these series," said PBV COO Zachary Fraser. "I will make sure I schedule a vacation on the coast far from my phone so as to not worry about who to root for."
With the realignment of the divisions for the WCL, Yakima will play each East Division opponent nine times. Yakima Valley will also play host to the Klamath Falls Gems, Kitsap Bluejackets, Victoria Harbourcats, Bellingham Bells, and the Cowlitz Black Bears. All WCL series are three games.
In addition to the WCL schedule, Yakima has scheduled non-league games with the Thurston County Senators (June 9-10, and July 16) and the Northwest Honkers of the PIL (June 17-19). In all, 33 regular-season home games have been scheduled for the inaugural season.
The 2013 WCL All-Star game will take place in Klamath Falls, Oregon on July 21st. The team is chosen by the 12 managers of the WCL.
