Sioux City Explorers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Sioux City Explorers offense and defense increased dramatically today with the signing of OF Anthony Webster. Webster will serve as the 4th and final veteran and will join Walter Young, Carlos Arroyo, and Alex Llanos as the team's 4 allotted veterans per American Association roster rules.
"Adding a quality outfielder with the experience Anthony has is a huge boost to our offense and defense," comments field manager Les Lancaster. "Anthony will start in Centerfield and bat in the 3 hole to start the season. With the speed of Carlos Arroyo and Dustin Jones at the top of the order, this will give the middle part of our line-up a chance to drive in a lot of RBI's"
Webster comes to Sioux City after spending the last (8) seasons in the affiliated ranks with the Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, and most recently the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Webster bolsters a career .289 batting average in affiliated ball with the past three seasons being at AA or AAA. In 2006 (AA - Frisco, and AAA Oklahoma), Webster hit .310 and .269 respectively in a total of (128) games while collecting (193) hits, (25) doubles, and stealing (19) bases. The 2009 season will mark Webster's 9th season in professional baseball and first season with the X's. For his career, Anthony has a career .289 batting average while accumulating (852) hits, (158) doubles, (162) stolen bases, (508) runs and (331) RBI's.
The 26 year-old, Parsons, TN native began his professional career in 2001, when the Chicago White Sox drafted him in the 15th round.
