February 15, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
Pittsburgh, PA. Eric Mobley, a 6'11" center who starred for the University of Pittsburgh before becoming a 1st round NBA draft pick in 1994, made his debut last night with the Pittsburgh Xplosion as the team faced the league-leading Indiana Alley Cats at Mellon Arena. (Details of the game to follow). The Xplosion announced the signing of Mobley, who played three seasons for the Pitt Panthers, averaging 10.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game during his Pitt career, including 13.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in his final collegiate year.
After being selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1st round in the 1994 NBA draft, as the 18th pick overall, Mobley played three years in the NBA with the Bucks and the Vancouver Grizzlies. Overall, he averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in his NBA career. While at Pitt, he was named to the All Big East Third Team in the 1993-1994 season.
"Adding Eric to a lineup that already includes ABA All Star Armon Gilliam and other strong players bolsters our inside game and gives the Xplosion even greater depth as our team prepares for the ABA playoffs in March," said Freddie Lewis, majority owner and GM of the Xplosion. "By signing Eric, we're putting some true 'Pitt' into the Pittsburgh Xplosion."
On Saturday, Armon Gilliam was named MVP of the 2006 ABA All Star game after scoring 29 points and snaring 13 redbounds. Coleco Buie, a starting guard averaging 22 points per game for the Xplosion, also played in the ABA All Star game.
