Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, December 27, 2007 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion dropped a 97-93 decision to the Yakama Sun Kings tonight at the Petersen Events Center. Shaun Fountain led Pittsburgh with 25 points.

The Xplosion led by as many as six in the third quarter, but the defending champions fought back to take a six point lead of their own into the fourth. Yakama retained that lead throughout the final period, but Pittsburgh had a couple of late chances to tie the score.

With Yakama leading, 94-91, Fountain missed an open three pointer with 1:14 to play. After a defensive stop, Kevin Mickens double-dribbled with 38.7 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession, Moochie Norris banked in a jumper to seal the Xplosion's fate. Norris finished with 14 points and 16 assists.

"We had some mental mistakes at some key points in the game," head coach Carlos Knox said. "The execution just wasn't there at times, but I felt like we played well enough throughout that we could have won this one."

The Xplosion took a 54-52 lead into halftime, led by Shaun Fountain's 11 points. The Xplosion held tough on the boards in the first half, outrebounding Yakama, 24-18. In the two games played in Yakama in November, the Sun Kings outrebounded Pittsburgh by an average of nearly 20 per game.

Pittsburgh took two quarter points, and will look to avenge the loss tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
