Memphis Xplorers News Release
Bartlett, TN- The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 made an appearance Monday to talk football and to hang out with the 5-year-olds at Bartlett Baptist School. Bartlett Baptist School Teachers Carol Zellner and Dee Polk had a room full when six of the Mid-South's toughest football players and their coach came to visit the kindergarten class.
The Xplorers players included Nate Grace, Kevin Prentiss, Brian Jones, Scott Cunningham, Steven Green and Dahnel Singfield and Head Coach Danton Barto.
The children had an opportunity to try on football equipment and ask the players questions about football. "Can you run fast like a cheetah?" one child asked. "I am faster than a cheetah," Cunningham replied. Other questions included where the various players grew up, what position they played and how hold they are.
After the students asked all the questions they could think of, Cunningham read the book, "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon." All eyes and ears were on him as he told the tale of how young, smaller-than-average Molly Lou Melon overcame many obstacles to be a star and make friends.
The students also had the opportunity to get each player's autograph. Some players even lent their artistic ability to the children, taking time during the autograph session to draw and visit with each child.
There awaited a grand finale to cap off the happy visit: before the Xplorers left, all the children grabbed hands with the players and everyone sang a rousing rendition of "If You're Happy and You Know It."
