Manchester Wolves News Release
The Wolves have three days of practice this week as they prepare for another road test against their East Division rivals, the Albany Conquest (2-3). Manchester is off to its best start in franchise history at 4-1.
Game 5 Wrap-up â Wolves Continue Hot Streak, Defeat Fire 46-37; Move Into Tie For First
The Manchester Wolves extinguished the Louisville Fire, 46-37, handing them their first loss of the season by holding them to their lowest number of points scored all season. The Wolves' second home win came in front of an exuberant crowd of 6,123 Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Both teams are now 4-1 and tied for the top spot in the American Conference, East Division standings. It was another big night for Wolves QB Jake Eaton, who earned his fourth Offensive Player of the Game honor for his performance. Eaton completed 19-of-26 passes for 230 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for an additional score. Wolves' WR/DB J.J. McKelvey had a strong offensive night as well, catching six passes for 64 yards and three touchdowns. This was McKelvey's fourth consecutive game with at least two touchdowns. Offense was certainly the story in the first half as both teams had little trouble putting points on the board. After the first 30 minutes, Manchester held a slim 26-24 advantage.
In the second half, however, Manchester's defense held true, limiting the potent Fire to just seven third quarter points and six fourth quarter points. Leading the effort was ADT Defensive Player of the Game William "Rock" Haith. His achievements included twelve total tackles, seven pass breakups, and one tackle for a loss. Other key Wolves were Marc Bacote (Army Ironman of the Game), Heyward Skipper and Jamaal Perry who each collected a touchdown reception. Bacote also recorded 3.5 tackles on defense.

Game 6 Preview â Wolves at Albany Conquest â Saturday, May 14, 2005 â 7:30 PM
The Wolves (4-1) enter Saturday night's road game at Albany (2-3) in a first-place tie in the East Division on the strength of a four-game winning streak. The Conquest are currently in fifth place in the division standings, but have turned the corner a bit of late, scoring two straight wins after starting the year 0-3. They are led by veteran QB D. Bryant, who is in his second season with the team. Bryant has thrown for 1,085 yards and 21 touchdowns on the year. He also leads the team with 55 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Leading a well-balanced receiving corps is Manwel Talbert with 34 catches for 428 yards and 10 scores. Travis Coleman stands out on the defensive side for Albany with a team-leading 19.0 total tackles and two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns. The Conquest will be out for a bit of revenge against Manchester this weekend as the Wolves defeated Albany earlier in the season on the road, 56-49, on April 23. The Conquest, however, still lead the all-time series, 6-4.
Wolves Backup QB Traded To Birmingham
In roster news, today the Wolves traded backup QB Roger Linn to the Birmingham Steeldogs for future considerations. This is a positive move for Linn as he is expected to get the opportunity to start for the Steeldogs, who are looking for a solid prospect to help the team recover from its 0-5 start. Linn was a 2004 NIFL All-Star with the Odessa Roughnecks who started 14 games for the team. He amassed 3,063 passing yards, 72 passing touchdowns, and seven rushing touchdowns. In 2003, Linn played for the NIFL's Tri-City Diesel and started 10 games, passing for 1,537 yards and 31 touchdowns, while rushing for 266 yards and four touchdowns. With starter Jake Eaton now listed as the only quarterback on the roster, the Wolves will look to bring in another quarterback sometime this week as they prepare for Saturday night's game at Albany.
